Tweed is coming Tweed is coming!

We're bringing tweed back....yeah!

Tweed is everywhere.  I am seeing it in Blazers, skirts, coats, purses, shoes and jewelry.  So now that it is here we need to add it to our "oh so" trendy wardrobe that we have been talking about.

Tweed is best done in small doses.  You have to be careful with tweed because it can seriously date you and can be overdone.  The best way to wear tweed is one piece combined with a simple solid piece.   Example, I like to wear a tweed blazer with a white tee and jeans.  Bling up on the necklaces if you go this route.  It looks super cute and updated.

Pick a tweed that has a small splash of color in it.  And start having fun from there.  Say a black, cream and teal tweed blazer.  Splash that teal and work it girl.  Big necklaces or layered bangles.  Not both.

Start hitting the resale shops for tweed.  Tweed made its way into our wardrobe in 2007 and was hot, as we all know any trend will die but will almost always reappear.  Great for the resale shops, people have weeded their tweed and now they are wishing they would of kept it.  So hit your favorite resale shop better known as  Ladies Plus Size Resale Shop and let us help you accessorize with our new jewelry that has come in.  We have received tons of tweed blazers and you get them for a fraction of the retail price.

Start thinking of winter because, we are going there real soon.

Disguise yourself in these pieces

Being plus size and trendy is possible!  Especially these days with a variety of designers marketing the plus size industry.  Bout time people get on board.  I sometimes find that you have to sacrifice quality for trends.  And you know what?  that is okay because it is a trend and trends typically mean one or two season.

Here are some great pieces that you should spend some money on because they will carry you out for a while.  The great thing about these pieces are they can help disguise some of your problem areas and accentuate our bodies.

Silk Scarves

We don't wear these anymore they grandma use too.  Stay away from the neck grasp unless you are hiding something ;)   These are to be worn loosely hanging or draped.  They add great persona to any outfit.  If you go busy on the scarf tone it down on the wardrobe and viceversa.  By wearing a scarf you draw attention to your face and not your body.  Whoot Whoot....keep the eyes up people.

Bold Cardigans

Oh how I love thee!  These have become every girls shield.  I call them the fancy blankie.  These help cover the endless flaws from the waist and up.  Please note ladies, I am talking bold colors not the boring Mr. Rogers cardigan.  Though I do love me some Mr. Rogers.  We want to see Purple, Chartreuse, Green etc.  Make these pop from your wardrobe.  Go with some bling or simple but with some blingy buttons.  You can go long or short.  Button them half way or leave like a shrug.  Cute Cute Cute.  How fun all the while covering up.

Tunic Tops

Can we say love you "long" time?  These are spectacular for those wanting to "hide" the backside.  Frequently I get ladies in the store saying I want LONG!  Well you are in luck because tunic tops are long and have style to boot.  If you were to pair this up with a fitted jean and one of your scarves and throw those boots on girl....let's say sweeeet!  So now you have your ass covered and slimmed by the jeans.  Go on about yourself girl!  This is a tireless option and is suited for most ages.

Tuxedo Jacket

Trend alert....This is really a great piece to have in the closet this season.  Get too hot?  Well roll up the sleeve to a 3/4 sleeve and pair with your choice of bottoms.  This will work like the cardigan.  It will cover and will give you the illusion of a waist.  Don't go long in this jacket because it can shorten you in a hurry and make you look bigger than what you may be.  Keep it mid-rear to waist and wear it open.

These are all great pieces and will flatter most shapes and sizes.   Don't judge a book by its cover, get in there and try on the pieces you may shy away from.  You must keep your shape in mind and open up your closet door to these ideas.

Memo to self, "check your FALL colors"

Ladies we got this!

Fall is about warmth, coziness, comfort and practicality.  This one will make you happy because we probably already have these colors in our closet.  Hello....can you say money saver.  Which is great because you can  go get those trendy jewelry pieces we last talked about.

The Six Colors that will follow us strongly through the season are:
  1. Camel - this will do wonderfully in a trench coat, jacket or blazer.
  2. Rich Purple - remember our jewelry convo?  work this into your skirts, blouses, cardigans and casual tops.
  3. Modern Metallics - okay ladies work with me here.  I love metallic especially metallic shoes.  Metallic is my kryptonite.  Anyhoo before I get off the subject please use your metallic sparingly.  Lets say shoes, belts, floor length dresses and if you are brave A blazer!
  4. Mixed Olives (ie. browns, camo green, olive green) - this one makes me duper excited.  Picture your fuchsia or deep purple tones with this color.  This can make way into your pants, skirts, tops and jackets.  I can picture it now...riding boots!
  5. Pale Blue - can I hear an awe....This color is superb and works well with light and dark skin.  Not so well for us olive skin gals.  Which makes me say...Boooo!  Cause I love this color.  Keep this color on top.  Except with skirts you can pull this color off in a skirt.  I see it in a flowy dress that screams serenity as your walk by.
  6. Bright Red - this is color trend that repeats itself every year.  Red states power and confidence.  I WANT a red blazer...stat!
These colors work well for all my plus size beauties even for those who choose to draw zippo attention to themselves.   If you have any of these colors in your wardrobe bring them with you next time you shop at Ladies Plus Size Resale and lets get to matchin!

Next time on Fall Trends - Foot wear.  Geepers I am drooling.  I can't wait.....

My weakness....Shoooesss!

Love may make you weak in the knees.  Not me! Shoes make ME weak at the knees.  Yes mam they do.

My best friend and I reserve a shoe shopping day once a month.  We enter our jungle and hunt our pray.  Our method goes likes this - hit the sale rack first, this is shopping 101, then off to look for what we showed up for and last get to what we want.  I always go for a practical shoe, a fun shoe and a killer shoe.   How do I define these type of shoes, well let me tell ya.

  • Practical shoe = a shoe that you can wear for 10+ hours, like a flat, kitten heel or a cute sneaker.
  • Fun shoe = a shoe that you can wear for 6 or so hours, like a wedge or square heeled shoe.
  • Killer shoe =  These shoes are for transportation purposes only.   When you wear these type of shoes I recommend that you plan on sitting 80% of your stay.    These are typically worn for a date, wedding or a girls night out.  You know we wear killer shoes to impress our girlfriends.  Right??  The killer shoe would consist of a  high heel (3+inches), possibly strappy and lots of personality.  You may be hurtin be you'll sure look damn gooood!

Top 5 trends for Fall 2010:

  1. Clogs - I know can you believe it?  These damn things always make a comeback.  Just like broomstick skirts or vest.  They always make a comeback.   The great thing about this comeback is that they pair really well with anything.   Be careful not to overindulge in this trend because it will die out with winter.
  2. Loafers/Oxfords - I don't even want to talk about this one.  But it is being called upon.  The only great thing that could come out this trend is comfort.  If you choose to opt for this shoe then please go all out.  Pair this with a fitted top, short skirt with volume, belt and a cardigan.  This will set you up with a completed look.
  3. Pointy-toe flats - Anyone who knows me knows this one makes me happy.  I love pointy toe shoes and flat too boot!  whoo-hooo!  This type of shoes gives you so many options  Remember our lazy convo from the jewelry post. My lazy visual goes like this:  Jeans, white tee, scarf, suttle earring, chunky bracelet and my pointy toe flats.  Go with a suede or with something that has lots of texture like eyelet or stones.  Personality people Personality use it for this one.
  4. Lace up Boots -  This is another one of those fly by night trends.  So 80's....  They made this trend pretty universal and provide lots of options.  You can go tall, short, chunky, colored, pointy toe or round toe just as long as it laces up.  Use this boot with caution as you begin to pair them up with your wardrobe.  Skirts will take to a short lace up.  Jeans will need a chunky round toe lace up.  Leggings take well to your long lace up boots.  I will be passing on this trend, I do enough lacing up in this house.
  5. Kitten heel pump - Oh yes, the practical one.  Thank you fashion gods.  This one is always on my top five.  Kitten heel pumps make a great work shoe, can be worn for long hours and look great with slacks/trousers.  Here comes a visual:  Short bell blazer, casual ruffled neck top, trouser slacks and a peep toe kitten heel pump.  This shoe can be taken from business to happy hour.  Use this one up ladies because this is a classic trend and is here to stay.

You can find a style and fit in any of these shoes.  Be open minded and yes they can be comfortable.  Grab you best girlfriend and set out for the hunt.  I would love to hear and see a pic of your latest kill.

Till next time

A girl's best friend...Jewelry!

Lets talk jewelry my beauties.

Jewelry is one of the cheapest ways to dress up almost any outfit.   I call my thoughtless outfit a pair of jeans, white t-shirt and flats.  But do you know what makes my thoughtless outfit flawless?  JEWELRY.  Sensible earrings, cuff bracelet and a chunky bracelet.  Waalaa..presto...I have been accessorized.
